Cars in German City Found Covered with Nazi Symbols in Blood, Police Report

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Law Enforcement
Officers reported they were alerted by a resident who found a vehicle in Hanau covered with reddish fluid

Roughly fifty vehicles have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.

Vehicles, walls and postboxes were defaced, in some cases with swastikas, they stated in a statement.

Law enforcement report they were alerted late on Wednesday evening, when a individual discovered that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored liquid.

The substance had been drawn in the form of a swastika, they added.

Law enforcement then found multiple other marked cars and building exteriors in the surrounding area.

Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public display of Nazi-era symbols.

Law enforcement state initial examinations show the substance was probably human blood.

"There is still no clue as to where it came from; authorities are currently not aware of any harm in connection with the incident," they commented.

City officials announced they were trying "to resolve the incident" and have asked to the residents for details.

An important official said the vandalism rendered him stunned and needed to be resolved quickly.

"This act hits the very heart of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the extremist attack half a decade ago," he posted on online, referring to the killing of nine people by a shooter targeting individuals of migrant background in 2020.
