Larian Studios Announce a New Divinity, Labeling it Their Biggest RPG Yet

The buzz about The Game Awards has been intense, particularly after host Geoff Keighley shared an enigmatic image of a desert monolith. The secret has been revealed. The acclaimed developer is developing a brand-new Divinity game.

Revealed to be Divinity, the game was debuted with a audacious trailer that included memorable imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the very unleashing of hell.

A Different Direction

For those anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian clarified that a follow-up to its beloved RPGs is not currently in development.

That said, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This distinction hints that the team could be building a real-time experience as opposed to another turn-based title. At this moment, it remains theory, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

The Legacy of Divinity

The Divinity series is highly rated and many say it kicked off the modern wave of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are known for rich lore, choice-driven narratives, and complex character building—qualities that recently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its setting is traditional swords and sorcery, what truly sets Divinity apart is the remarkable agency given to the player.

Where many modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is packed with unique possibilities that are viable if you're playing as a particular class or origin with a personal story.

The series is also wonderfully permissive, letting players to find creative solutions throughout the entire experience. Most missions can be approached in diverse methods, sometimes in unexpected fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you remembered something a non-human character said.
  • Or, you could bypass a challenge by teleporting a glob of lava in a unorthodox way.

More to Come

It is these creative systems that allow people to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games of all time. Now, the RPG community can get ready for another adventure in this groundbreaking franchise.
