Whenever a significant awards ceremony draws close, there’s always a clamor for the addition fresh award types to honor unsung work and fill the passions of enthusiasts with niche passions.
A fellow writer has already made for a horror game category. That would rule. The same goes for strategy board titles, which is someone's personal cause. However, I must insist if I try to elbow in front because like all dedicated enthusiasts, I have a cast-iron argument supporting my request stands as crucial and important of all. This is the request: It's essential to create a category for puzzle games.
Organizing Gaming Categories
Classifying creative works isn't exact; it remains highly personal, and inevitably generate discussions concluding with vague boundaries. This explains why movie academies avoid this approach. However, it represents an essential concession in the world of interactive entertainment, that demonstrate such variety they barely qualify as a single art form.
For the full spectrum of gaming accomplishments to gain proper attention, and for games of all stripes to compete fairly, specific award classifications remain vital.
Current Gaming Award Categories
Prominent interactive entertainment events presently include classifications covering Action, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Collectively, these six categories effectively encompass numerous genres, making space possible accommodating various experiences.
Not so for puzzle games. There’s simply nowhere to accommodate them. Consider three of outstanding current releases, all very different: the architectural riddles from a specific release, intense tile-matching from another release, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles from additional release. What category would fit them between these six categories? Nowhere, that’s where.
Recognition Challenges
Many instances occur outstanding logic titles published annually that have no home in entertainment awards, unless they happen to qualify award groups including Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the intensely contested independent game categories.
- One classic puzzle game wasn’t nominated for anything during that awards season
- A different innovative game missed out that year
- Well-received sorting experience got ignored that year
- Just some brain-teasers managed to sneak into small studio or handheld classifications
Significance of Puzzle Games
Commonly they're compact experiences, but the art of the puzzle game holds tremendous importance. Iconic mobile puzzle games count as the most-played games worldwide and have been for many years.
The iconic tile-matching title challenges popular creative games claiming status as most purchased experience; it’s also in the running as greatest title ever. Logic titles represent cornerstones for gaming as medium, and they are in conversation with almost every other genre.
Recommendation and Reasoning
Logic titles wouldn't face that issue. One could readily select a field of five interesting, varied, worthy titles each ceremony simply — or rather, with difficulty, given the need to exclude numerous deserving experiences.
To emphasize again, these include experiences lacking appropriate categories during prominent ceremonies. Brain-teaser creators operate at the demanding boundary interactive creation, producing among the purest expressions of the video game form. Similar to film action specialists, they warrant appreciation. We shouldn't delay decades.
